Each year, in communities across the country, dedicated candidates engage in an exciting competition to earn LLS’s "Man & Woman of the Year" titles. Raising funds for LLS blood cancer research, the candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Every dollar raised counts as one vote and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of 10 week campaign. Top local fundraisers become eligible to win the national titles. The campaign runs between February and June of each year.
Coming together for a common goal, friends, families and co-workers form fundraising walk teams. Millions of consumers also help by donating at retail outlets. Culminating in inspirational and memorable evening walks every fall, participants in nearly 200 communities across North America join together carrying illuminated lanterns to take steps to end cancer.
Team In Training (TNT) is the flagship fundraising program for LLS and the only endurance sports training program for charity that raises money for blood cancer research. It doesn't matter if you're an athlete or not in perfect shape. Our coaches will train you to cross the finish line at a marathon, half marathon, cycling event or triathlon. You don't have to be the best, you already are by saving lives and helping create a world without blood cancers.
Students of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program for exemplary high school students. During the campaign, participants foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
The title Student(s) of the Year is awarded to the candidate or co-candidates in each community that raise the most funds during the 7-week competition.

The Red & White Ball is Philadelphia’s premier social event! The festive black-tie gala features a formal sit-down dinner, entertainment from one of the city’s best bands, and incredible silent and live auctions. The event also boasts a Mercedes-Benz raffle. The vehicle is generously donated, which means that LLS receives 100% of the proceeds. The event is held in February.
Big Climb Philly is the annual stair climb event challenging the community to join LLS in the fight against blood cancers. The climb is an exhilarating, one-of-a-kind event, providing an opportunity for participants to test themselves as they climb 46 flights of stairs all the way to the top of one Philadelphia’s tallest skyscrapers - FMC Tower at Cira Centre South. Big Climb Philly is held in the spring.
