In January 2018, after months of seeking answers and enduring worsening symptoms, I was finally diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The road to this diagnosis wasn’t easy ― it took three hospital transfers, three bone marrow biopsies, and the loss of my mobility before doctors could pinpoint the cause of my pain.

On November 8, 2023, our world changed forever when my husband Flavio was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). What began as a normal recovery from Achilles tendon surgery quickly spiraled into something far more serious. It started with comments about how pale his skin had become, a sign we now realize was the first red flag.

In February 2024, I had just entered my second trimester of pregnancy and woke up with a swollen lymph node on my neck about the size of a golf ball. After scans and two biopsies, I was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (DLBCL). It was found to be high-grade (meaning it’s growing fast).

In March 2024, during my first year of college as an international student in America, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. The diagnosis came unexpectedly during a compulsory admissions check-up where they discovered a tumor in my chest that had grown extensively within just two months.

I’m 37 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 high-grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Life was going well. I got promoted at my job and was doing great when all of a sudden, my life changed forever. It started with severe leg and back pain. I went to the hospital and had some basic tests done, and they sent me home.

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL)

I was diagnosed in late February 2023 with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). I had 810,000 white blood cells that were all cancerous. I have made a recovery, but I’m still in the process of recovering. I’ve met amazing people along the way. I have around two years left of treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
