Dr. Qian is investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of a dominant population of abnormal blood-forming stem cells in Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients, and searching for new effective therapeutic strategies for the treatment of early stages of MDS patients. Zhijian Qian, Ph.D. is a professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at University of Florida. He leads a laboratory focused on investigating the mechanisms that underlie the development of blood cancers with a focus on studying the genetic pathways that control the proliferation, survival and self-renewal of normal or leukemic hematopoietic stem cells, and to identify novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of myeloid malignant diseases.
