Rye Brook, NY – September 5, 2017 – In the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced today that it will donate up to $1 million to help blood cancer patients who have been impacted by the storm.
Blood cancer patients living in declared disaster areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey, are eligible to receive $500 to help with cancer-related necessities such as transportation to treatment, lost or damaged medications and other needs directly related to the hurricane.
“Living with a blood cancer is difficult enough without the added stress of being displaced from your home or being unable to receive treatment because of a natural disaster,” said Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., president and CEO of LLS. “As a ‘patients first’ organization we are determined to provide critical support directly to those who need it. Patients’ lives literally depend on it.”
