The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Honors FDA Associate Director, Greg Reaman, M.D., with the Return of Child Award For Immediate Release Contact: Andrea Greif (914) 821-8958 (office) (914) 772-3027 (cell) andrea.greif@lls.org The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Honors FDA Associate Director, Gregory Reaman, M.D. with the Return of Child Award White Plains, NY (December 5, 2013) - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) today is pleased to announce Gregory Reaman, M.D., associate director for oncology sciences with the office of hematology and oncology products of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will be presented with the prestigious Return of the Child Award at a reception at the New Orleans Marriott on December 6, 2013. The Return of the Child Award honors an individual who has made a major and lasting scientific or humanitarian contribution to the better understanding, management or treatment of blood cancers. Reaman is receiving this award due to his outstanding career dedicated to finding better ways to treat and improve outcomes for children with cancer, and for his exceptional leadership and accomplishments in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. Specifically, his primary work has focused on clinical trials for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and Phase 1 experimental therapeutics. Reaman's leadership in these areas has led to significant improvements in the care of children with ALL as well as the facilitation of new drug development for children with cancer. He is a previous recipient of LLS's Tree of Life Award that honors individuals who have played a major role, with national impact, in improving the quality of life of patients and their families. "It is an honor for LLS to recognize Dr. Reaman for his significant accomplishments in a career dedicated to pediatric oncology," said John Walter president and CEO of LLS. "LLS recognized Dr. Reaman's potential with a Career Development Award in 1979 and again in 2006 as a member of a LLS Specialized Center of Research focused on targeted therapies for infant leukemias. Through these and many other efforts his extensive research helped to advance how pediatric blood cancers are treated today." Reaman is the associate director for oncology sciences, Office of Hematology and Oncology Products, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the FDA, and executive director emeritus and senior attending physician at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C. Throughout his career, Reaman has held numerous prestigious leadership positions, including chairman, Department of Hematology/Oncology, director of medical specialty services and executive director, Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's National Medical Center; executive vice president for scientific and medical affairs, National Childhood Cancer Foundation; and he is a tenured professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
