Students of the Year - Maryland

Motivated and passionate high school students raise funds for LLS for seven weeks in February and March.

About Students of the Year

The Students of the Year campaign is a wonderful opportunity for Maryland high school students enrolled in private or public schools who are enthusiastic about volunteerism, philanthropy, community outreach, and developing leadership skills to participate in the fight against blood cancers! The campaign is a seven-week initiative in which nominated high school students, or teams of two or three students, participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Maryland Chapter.

We are currently recruiting for the Students of the Year 2017 campaign set to take place in February and March!

Why become a Students of the Year candidate?

Chosen students to become candidates for the 2017 Student of the Year title receive personalized action plan meetings and training sessions to prepare them to spread awareness and fundraise in their community. Candidates are provided with a personal website, fundraising materials, and support from LLS staff throughout the campaign. Students will be able to use this leadership experience to build their resume and enhance skills such as project and team management, financial literacy, public speaking, and networking. The candidate or team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year and is awarded a $2,500 college scholarship. Any student that raises $10,000 will receive a $1,000 scholarship. In addition, there are three Citizenship Awards for the student candidate who excels in mission, leadership, and community involvement.

During the seven week fundraising campaign, from February 3, 2017 to March 24, 2017, our candidate teams are focused on raising as much money as possible for LLS and our mission. The campaign will culminate in a Grand Finale Gala, celebrating the accomplishments of our student candidates. Winner(s) of the Student of the Year title and the three Citizenship Award recipients, will be announced. The evening will include a dinner, silent auction and an awards presentation.
