Ways To Help

The Word:

Special Partner - UFCW

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) has been a powerful voice for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in North America for almost 30 years!

Thanks to the continued generous commitment of the UFCW, over $47.7 million has been raised since 1983 to support blood cancer research. The UFCW and its 1.3 million union members shine as an example of the kind of impact their solidarity with the LLS cause can make. In 2012 alone, the UFCW raised $1.9 million in the United States and over $2.4 million in Canada.

The UFCW fundraising activity included successful charity golf tournaments, auctions, bottle drives, along with participation in LLS campaigns such as Light The Night Walk and Team In Training and other activities.

Of the $2.4 million raised in Canada, $1.6 million was raised through a bottle drive called "Returns for Leukemia." Every last weekend in May, Local 12R24 members, families and friends collect bottle donations from Beer Store customers at locations across Ontario. Among some of the other outstanding milestones is the effort of UFCW Local 328, representing workers in Rhode Island, southern Mass. and eastern Connecticut. The local reached the $1 million milestone this year through its annual golf tournament for LLS. In addition, UFCW Local 770, headquartered in Los Angeles, raised an incredible $100,000 with their charity golf tournament - making it the third year in a row that they exceeded the $100,000 mark.

The majority of UFCW's members are employed in the grocery industry. They also represent workers in nursing homes, retail clothing stores, poultry, meatpacking and food processing plants and in numerous other retail and food manufacturing areas. The UFCW, LLS's special partner, is truly helping blood cancer patients' live better longer lives.
