flight or fight
The day Judie was diagnosed with CML she called a friend who was a medical technologist. Her friend answered Judie's questions and connected her with Dr. Brian Druker. During this time, Judie decided not to have a bone marrow transplant and continued treatment with interferon. Two years passed and Judie found out the interferon was no longer working. After hearing the news she went and saw Dr. Druker -- her name went on the list to start STI571 (Gleevec) in January 1999. Judie was the ninth person to enter the phase I drug study for CML and became part of the effort to change the course of treatment for a once-devastating cancer diagnosis.
