Society Ties, the young professionals' committee of the New York City Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is thrilled to announce the success of their annual Black Tie & Black Jack Casino Night on March 15, 2008 at Bridgewaters. Over 700 guests tested their luck at games of chance and won big, raising more than $191,000 for the fight against blood cancer. Thank you for all of your support.

Event Chair• Jennifer Madoff
Jennifer Stevens Madoff joined Society Ties in 2007. Her family has been actively supporting the efforts of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 2002, when her late husband, Roger Madoff, and two of their cousins, Ariel and Andy, were each diagnosed with blood cancers.During his fight with AML, Roger wrote his memoirs, Leukemia for Chickens, which Jen published after he passed away in April 2006. Having been a caregiver and a public health researcher, Jen is currently using the book to facilitate conversations within the medical community about the patient experience and the needs of people living with cancer.She graduated from CornellUniversity and received her doctorate from ColumbiaUniversity. Jen lives in Manhattan.
Society Ties Chair • Gayle Silverman
Gayle Silverman, a consultant at The Frankel Group, joined Society Ties in 2005. Since being diagnosed with leukemia in 2001 she has been an active volunteer with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, both as a fundraiser and a guest speaker. She has been an honored teammate for Team in Training and a member of walk team, Hemogoblins, for Light The Night. Gayle has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research, as well as inspired others to join in the fight against cancer. She graduated from EmoryUniversity in Atlanta, Georgia and lives in New York City. Gayle's cancer is now in remission.
