How We Use Your Personal Information

The primary reason for LLS to collect Personal Information is to provide personalization options for users of our Platforms, and to facilitate and enhance Site features that require user input, whether this information is submitted directly by the user of our Platforms, or collected by use of technologies such as cookies, as discussed below. Personal Information submitted through LLS Platforms is only used for the purposes for which it was collected. Below please find additional information on how LLS may use Personal Information collected from the Platforms.

We may use your information for any lawful purpose, including the following:

  • To fulfill your orders for products and services you request;
  • To enable you to make donations and to participate in activities, events, and offerings available through the Platforms;
  • To respond to your inquiries, including providing information and materials you request;
  • To deliver and improve our services, including to provide better services, products, and opportunities to our donors and visitors to our Platforms;
  • To operate, personalize, and improve the Platforms, including for advertising and analytics purposes;
  • To send surveys and promotional materials that may be of interest to you, and for other marketing activities;
  • To prevent and detect fraud;
  • To comply with the law and to maintain the security of our Platforms; or
  • With your consent, or as otherwise disclosed at the time information is collected

How We Share Your Personal Information

We may share the information we collect with other parties, including the following:

  • To Fulfill Your Requests. We may share information with third-party service providers or vendors who process data on our behalf to help our business operations, such as payment processors and email service providers.
  • Corporate Changes. We may share information as part of a corporate sale, merger, or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets, including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding.
  • As Required by Law and Similar Disclosures. We may share information pursuant to a subpoena, court order, governmental inquiry, or other legal process or as otherwise required by law, or to protect our rights or the rights of third parties.
  • Affiliates. We may share information with corporate affiliates, including those not under the LLS brand.
  • Other Third Parties. We may share information (with the exception of text messaging originator opt-in data and consent) with third-party companies, vendors, business partners, and other organizations whose products or services we think may interest you.
  • De-identified or Anonymized Information. We may share information that has been de-identified or aggregated without limitation.
  • Consent. We may share information with your consent or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing.

Cookies

LLS or its vendors may use cookies, web beacons, tags, log-in files or other similar data collection or tracking techniques to facilitate use of our Platforms by our users, and to enrich your online experience with us. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about that user. LLS uses both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period
of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions.

Persistent cookies are used to store the user's registration identification information from their basic registration and to facilitate their logging in to their personalized view of the Platforms. Persistent cookies enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our Platforms.

Session cookies remember what chapter you are registered into or visiting online and who you are if you go from one LLS website to another in a session. This way we are able to cut down on the number of logins required when you visit various LLS websites during any given session.

Many consider the use of cookies and such identifiers to be an industry standard measure. Consequently, your web browser is likely set to accept cookies or allow other identifiers. If you would prefer not to receive cookies or allow identifiers, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies or surf anonymously. If you reject cookies, you may still use our websites and all the informational resources provided through them, but your registration-based personalization options and the capacity of your browser to keep track of what chapter you are visiting online as you go from one of our sites to another will be lost.

LLS uses a tracking utility provided by a third-party vendor to track usage of specific web pages and other resources provided through our website. The vendor sets cookies as a method for compiling site usage information, but these cookies are only used to compile demographic models of site usage and are not tied to the user's personal information.

Digital Advertising

We may partner with ad networks and other ad serving providers (“Advertising Providers”) that serve ads on behalf of us and others on non-affiliated platforms. Some of those ads may be personalized, meaning that they are intended to be relevant to you based on information Advertising Providers collect about your use of the Platforms and other sites or apps over time, including information about relationships among different browsers and devices. This type of advertising is known as interest-based advertising.

LLS adheres to the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) Self-Regulatory Principles in connection with this interest-based advertising activity. You may visit the DAA Webchoices tool at www.aboutads.info to learn more about this type of advertising and how to opt out of this advertising on websites by companies participating in the DAA self-regulatory program. If you delete your cookies or use a different browser or mobile device, you may need to renew your opt-out choices exercised through the DAA Webchoices tool. Note that electing to opt out will not stop advertising from appearing in your browser or applications. It may make the ads you see less relevant to your interests. Additionally, your browser may offer tools to limit the
use of cookies or to delete cookies; however, if you use these tools, the Platforms may not function as intended.

If you wish to opt-out of interest-based advertising in mobile apps on your device by companies that participate in the DAA’s AppChoices app, you may download the app onto your device and exercise your choice. AppChoices is available at the links below:

We may also work with third parties that collect data about your use of the Platforms and other sites or apps over time for non-advertising purposes. We use Google Analytics and other third-party services to improve the performance of the Platforms and for analytics and marketing purposes. For more information about how Google Analytics collects and uses data when you use our Platforms, visit www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners, and to opt out of Google Analytics, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Third-Party Links and Tools

We may provide links on the Platforms to third-party websites or apps, including plug-ins that link to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram. These websites and apps are independent from LLS and have their own separate privacy policies. LLS is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such third-party websites or apps. We recommend that you review the third-parties’ privacy polices before you visit these websites or apps to learn about their data practices.

The Platforms may also include integrated social media tools or “plug-ins,” such as social networking tools offered by third parties. If you use these tools to share personal information or you otherwise interact with these features on the Platforms, those companies may collect information about you and may use and share such information in accordance with your account settings, including by sharing such information with the general public. Your interactions with third-party companies and your use of their features are governed by the privacy notices of the companies that provide those features. We encourage you to carefully read the
privacy notices of any accounts you create and use.

Data Security

LLS has implemented reasonable technical, physical, and administrative data security safeguards to protect the Personal Information under its control.

Data Retention

LLS retains Personal Information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Opt-Out

From time to time, LLS may also share donor names and mailing addresses with other reputable nonprofit organizations on a limited basis in exchange for limited access to the names and addresses of their constituents. We have found this to be a cost-effective method of reaching additional potential constituents.

These organizations will not have continued access to your name and address unless you choose to respond to their initial mailing. We do not share email addresses or health-related data in connection with this list exchange.

We respect our donors’ choices and control over their information. You, as a donor may, at any time, have your name excluded from any donor list exchange activity. We also recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you, and we offer the following options for restricting internal and external sharing of your contact information:

  1. Do not contact me by telephone.
  2. Do not contact me by postal mail.
  3. Do not contact me by email.
  4. Do not share my contact information with other nonprofit organizations.
  5. Limit your fund-raising appeals to semiannual solicitations only.
  6. Do not contact me.

To request that your name be excluded from list exchange activity or to otherwise change how LLS contacts you, please email us at Moore Inc. rmgdonorservicells@moorermg.com or feel free to contact us at 1-800-462-7831.

If you opt back into a specific service, you will receive communication in that manner regardless of your overall opt out selections. For example, if you request a newsletter subscription, we will provide you that subscription, even if you previously asked us not to contact you at all. We will take all reasonable efforts to ensure that your requests are honored in a timely fashion. Please note that if you are an active participant in one of our fundraising events, such as Team in Training® or Light the Night Walk®, you may receive communications related to that event regardless or your overall opt out selections. If you do not wish to receive emails about that event, please opt out using the “unsubscribe” link provided in the communication.

California Residents

Companies that collect Personal Information from California residents and disclose such information to third parties (including affiliated entities) for marketing purposes must, in response to a request by a consumer, either (1) provide a list detailing the categories of information shared and the entities to which such information was provided, or (2) provide a mechanism by which a consumer may opt-out of having his or her information shared with third parties. LLS has elected the second option, and you may request that your Personal Information not be shared with third parties by utilizing the opt-out right or sending your request, including your full name, email address and postal address, to Attn. Privacy, Chief Marketing Officer, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573. California residents
are also entitled to know that they may file grievances and complaints with the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 400 R Street, Suite 1080, Sacramento, CA 95814; by phone at 916-445-1254 or 800-952-5210; or by email to dca@dca.ca.gov.

Notification of Changes

LLS reserves the right to change this policy at any time. Since any changes will be posted on this page, we encourage you to check this page regularly. Your continued use of the Platforms will constitute your acceptance of such changes.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of New York. If you are located outside of the United States when you use the Platforms, any information you submit thereto will be transferred to the United States. Accordingly, by using the Platforms and submitting Personal Information thereto, you authorize the transfer of your Personal Information to the United States.
