Professional Education Programs


The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) sponsors a number of free community-based professional education programs for healthcare professionals, particularly for oncology nurses and social workers. Patients, their families and caregivers are also invited to attend.

Spotlight on Symptom Research in Hematological Malignancies

In this program Dr. Lori Williams will discuss the role of symptom assessment and research in cancer treatment and novel methods of symptom management based on new understandings of physiological mechanisms of symptom production. 

Speaker: Dr. Lori Williams, Assistant Professor, Department of Symptom Research, Division of Internal Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston TX

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss emerging therapies, care and survivorship related to symptom burden
  • Discuss the data related to patient-reported outcome symtptom measures in clinical care and research for patients with hematological maliginancies
  • Identify novel methods of managing common symptoms in patients with hematological malignancies based on physiological mechanisms of symptom production
  • Identify resources available in local communities and how to inform patients about services at comprehensive cancer centers
