Chinese Americans with limited English proficiency who have lost their loved ones tend to be reluctant to seek bereavement support. Culturally, they are not used to publicly expressing their feelings, let alone in an unfamiliar language. Moreover, the existing main stream?s approaches for grief support may not be entirely culturally acceptable for this group of people.
To address the specific needs of this underserved population, Herald Cancer Care Network with the support of several community organizations, will present a series of weekly, 1-hour bereavement educational seminars for Chinese Americans. The educational seminars will be presented in Mandarin by teleconference to callers in the privacy of their own homes. This program is totally free of charge for the participants.
