Donor Development Intern

Position Title: Donor Development Intern
Rocky Mountain Chapter
Denver, Colorado

Title: Donor Development (DD) Intern, Rocky Mountain Chapter of LLS (Denver, CO)

Classification: Part Time (20-25 hrs a week)

Basic Function: Provides meaningful fundraising support for LLS?s Rocky Mountain Chapter DD campaign

Work Direction: This position works directly under the supervision of the Development Director

Salary: Unpaid position, however, letters of support to receive academic credit are available upon completion

Application and Hiring Process: This is a rolling application process that will be open until the best candidate has been acquired. The targeted timeframe of the internship is the Jan-June semester of 2013, but can be extended for additional experience. It will be an ongoing project with year-round internship capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research viable corporate and private foundations (no government grants) based on past gifts to the organization and other suggested or viable options
  • Compile information on all potential grants, such as: deadlines, criteria to qualify, information required to complete, etc. using FoundationCenter.org, internal spreadsheets and other web based foundation research databases
  • Contact grant funders to determine eligibility and best practices for their applications process
  • Write and edit grant proposals and letters of inquiry
  • Gather all appropriate materials for the application
  • Track grant progress including correspondence and receipt
  • Write reports for foundations on any received grants during the internship timeframe
  • Maintain a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Publisher specifically)
  • Ability to use databases and other web-based research software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills, detail-oriented, professional demeanor and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work virtually and/or in the LLS office
  • Experience in grant writing is preferred, though not required
  • Access to Downtown Denver Public Library
