April 15, 2011 (Alexandria, VA) - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) today announced that Verizon will serve as the presenting sponsor for The Leukemia Golf Classic Hosted by Brian Orakpo on Monday, May 9. In addition, Verizon Business Group President - Global Strategic & Consulting Services, Troy Cromwell, serves as chairman of the event.

The event, to be held at Trump National Golf Club, brings together the business, golf and football communities to make a difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancers. Those in attendance will meet and hear the story of Brendan Kelly, a thirteen-year-old leukemia survivor and the event?s Patient Hero.

Founded in 2006 by then Redskin quarterback Mark Brunell, the golf classic has raised close to $885,000 for the National Capital Area Chapter of LLS, helping to fund its mission: to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin?s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
