March 25, 2011 (Washington, D.C.) - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) today announced Gabrielle Urquhart has joined the staff as the Executive Director of the National Capital Area Chapter. The Maryland native spent more than six years leading the helm as the American Heart Association's Executive Director of the Greater Washington region. Two years ago she went on to lead the Greater Baltimore Chapter as well, and was then promoted to Senior Vice President for the organization's Mid Atlantic Affiliate.
As Executive Director, Urquhart helped to increase revenue for the organization by thirty percent in her first year with AHA and nearly tripled revenue during her tenue. She was also responsible for growing the Board of Trustees, both in numbers and output of funds raised or donated. Prior to joining the non-profit world, Urquhart spent 12 years with Eastman Kodak Company, seven of which were spent in the Washington, DC area, with a focus on sales and marketing.
"The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a fantastic organization, and the opportunity to lead the National Capital Area Chapter was a natural step for me in my career," said Urquhart. "I look forward to working with the staff and volunteers to improve upon what we already do well, and bring a fresh look to the campaigns and events. Together with our corporate partners, we are working towards an important mission - to find a cure for blood cancers - and one that is close to my heart."
Urquhart will use the skills developed over her years at AHA, as well as from her time in the corporate world, to increase chapter revenue and awareness of the LLS brand.
