The Brian Orakpo Leukemia Golf Classic Presented By OMNITEC Solutions, Inc. Returns on Monday, May 6

Annual Event Aims to Raise $285,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

(Washington, DC) - Two-time Pro Bowler, Brian Orakpo, and his Redskin teammates will join members of the local business community at Trump National Golf Club on Monday, May 6 for the annual Brian Orakpo Leukemia Golf Classic Presented by OMNITEC Solutions, Inc. Proceeds from the event benefit the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS): to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease & myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Led by Chairman, Morris Brown, President and CEO of OMNITEC Solutions, Inc., and Honorary Chairman, Larry Michael, Voice of the Redskins, a committee has worked tirelessly over the past few months to sell foursomes and sponsorships for the event, ensuring a successful tournament. Guests will enjoy a round of golf at one of Northern Virginia's premier courses, followed by a reception and dinner, complete with  a silent and live auction, and awards ceremony. The program will be emceed by Comcast Sportsnet anchors Chick Hernandez and Julie Donaldson.

Providing inspiration for the committee members and golfers are the event's Honored Heroes, 12-year-old Tyler and 14-year-old Brendan. Each of the boys are leukemia survivors, though they've had very different journeys. Tyler, of Haymarket, VA, was first diagnosed in November of 2011, and is currently in remission with two years of maintenance therapy ahead. A sports fan, he has become an avid golfer and is looking forward to spending a day on the course with LLS in May. Brendan, of Great Falls, VA, has battled and beaten leukemia three times, having first been diagnosed at the age of 3. His positive outlook and theme song, Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", has carried him through years of chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and the Graft vs. Host disease he is currently fighting. Each of these young men are living proof that the research LLS is funding matters, and that we are closer to finding cures for blood cancers than ever before.

There are limited foursomes and sponsorship opportunities available for this event. For more information visit, or call (703) 399-2906.

Media interested in covering the event should RSVP to Lisa Iannarino at Availability with event chairs, Brian Orakpo, patient heroes Brendan and Tyler, and celebrity golfers will take place from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. prior to the event's shotgun start.

Founded in 2006 by then Redskin quarterback Mark Brunell, the golf classic has raised more than $1.2 million for the National Capital Area Chapter of LLS.
