Staying Connected: Facilitating the Learning Experience During and After Cancer Treatment

A free parking pass will be provided at the program. The entrance to the Children's Specialty Center parking ramp (West Parking Ramp) is off E 26th Street, west of Chicago Ave.

Goal: To educate school and college personnel and parents on the effects of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer treatment to improve the learning experience during and after cancer treatment.

At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to:

  • Identify cancers that affect children, adolescents, and young adults (AYAs)   
  • Identify side effects, long-term, and late effects of childhood/AYA cancer treatment
  • Describe challenges for survivors throughout their education 
  • Explain laws that protect childhood/AYA cancer survivors? rights 
  • Develop strategies to help meet the students? short- and long-term educational needs 
  • Access resources that support schools and families, including those from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

    Continuing Education Information:

  • Upon completion of this program and submission of the activity evaluation, a certificate of completion will be issued to all attendees at the end of the program.
  • Target Audience: Intermediate and Advanced Level Nurses and Social Workers, and School Personnel
  • Approval for nurses has been obtained by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's national office under Provider Number CEP 5832 to award 2.0 continuing education contact hours through the California Board of Registered Nursing. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Provider Number 1105, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) (www.aswb.org) Approved Continuing Education Program (ACE). Approval Period: 12/2008-12/2011. LLS maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 2.0 CE clinical clock hours.
