Position Title: Internship for Special Events (UNPAID)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Michigan chapter has unpaid internship opportunities available to assist with implementing activities associated with its Light The Night Walks, Leukemia Cup Regattas and Team In Training events held throughout the spring, summer an fall.
Selected interns will gain valuable experience in the areas of: business and non-profit operations; development and fundraising; marketing & PR; and community relations.
Basic Function: Performs diverse projects and activities for Special Events department to support and enhance income production.
Work Direction: Works under the direction, supervision and training of the Campaign Director and Special Events Coordinator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage assigned fundraising Walk teams
Become an expert in online fundraising, assist newly registered walkers/sailors with setting up new sites and conduct personalized trainings for participants
Make phone calls to past team captains/skippers and walkers/crew to recruit for current events
Assist with social networking, i.e. Facebook & Twitter
Assist with managing event day logistics
Assist with and manage grass roots marketing efforts
Make phone calls to solicit in-kind sponsors/donors for both the Walk and Regatta
Write press releases, media advisories and content for marketing/promotional pieces
Maintain working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission and its programs
Various projects as assigned by LLS staff
Position Requirements:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of MS Office and database management skills
Tech savvy, i.e. eMarketing, Facebook and Twitter
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Strong interpersonal skills and judgment
Professional demeanor
Students currently enrolled towards a degree in or having prior experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: business, marketing and/or communications/PR.
Internship positions are available year-round, with particular emphasis April - October, working approximately 20 hours per week between the hours of 9 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday at the Michigan Chapter office in Madison Heights. Some evenings and weekends, and local travel are required.
