Position Title: School Recruitment & Outreach Assistant
Location: Long Island Chapter - Hauppauge, NY
Campaign: Pennies for Patients 2014-2015
Dates: January 1, 2015 - May 30, 2015
Schedule: 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday 7:30-2:30

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is seeking an energetic individual to join our Pennies for Patients recruitment team. We are looking for a part-time outreach specialist to work 35 hours a week assisting the School & Youth program. A clear, concise speaking voice, strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent telephone skills required. An enthusiastic, sincere, mission-oriented personality is beneficial to the success of the position.
The individual will be responsible for recruiting Long Island schools to participate in the Pennies for Patients program. Outreach Assistants will emphasize that the program helps students to learn how to make a difference in their communities. Additionally, your role will include traveling and presenting at Pennies for Patients Kickoff Assemblies throughout Long Island.
We offer a hands-on working environment where you can learn new skills and improve existing skill sets. This is a great opportunity to experience work in a nonprofit agency while also using marketing, sales, social medial & interpersonal skills.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The Long Island Chapter is one of 57 national chapters, and serves all of Long Island. Last year alone, approximately 300 Long Island schools joined in the Pennies for Patients campaign.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn & maintain a working knowledge of LLS, its mission & the School & Youth programs
  • Call all schools assigned to you to get them registered for the Pennies for Patients program (approximately 300 schools)
  • Maintain timely communication with schools
  • Maintain accurate notes about school status and callbacks.
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Customize recruitment materials and/or suggest creative ideas for getting more schools involved
  • Attend and participate in weekly goal setting meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, especially via telephone
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Detail- oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Excel specifically)
  • Professional demeanor
  • Reliable transportation required

  • May be required to move Campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events.
