Intern, Spring/Summer Event Planning


How many people can answer the question, "What do you do for a living?" with the answer, "I help find cures for cancer."  At LLS, employees take our mission seriously.  Whether you work in one of our chapters, are an accountant at the national office or a specialist in our Information Resource Center, you work each day on making our mission a reality:  Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Position Title: Intern, Spring/Summer Event Planning

Illinois Chapter

Reports to: Manager, Logistics

Basic Function:

To assist with the planning and implementation logistics for various LLS events

Duties and Responsibilities:

Team In Training - Endurance training fundraising program

  • Schedule and confirm Team in Training recruitment & kickoff meetings for Fall & Summer programs

Light The Night - Five community walks that take place in Chicago, Elmhurst, Glenview, Hammond, IN (Oct) and Rockford (Sept)

  • Request in kind donations for food for each walk site
  • Request in kind donations for the VIP goodie bags for each walk site 
  • Request gift cards/gift certificates from Costco, Walmart & Sam's Club locations & make follow up calls
  • Maintain walk site information binders for each lead staff 
  • Order all supplies for day of walk
  • Assist in organizing day of materials(supplies & t-shirts) for each walk site
  • Confirm day of deliveries/pick up times with vendor
  • Assist with loading & unloading supply truck before and after walk events
  • Assist with follow up and thank you calls & letters to in-kind donors

Overall

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS mission and educate others about our goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Logistics Manager

Qualifications:

  • Must be a student in college or post-high school program
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively and meeting deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence
  • Highly organized and professional demeanor
  • Resourcefulness and problem solving acumen
  • Good computer skills (word processing and database programs) 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license and access to a car
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends

Full-time and part-time internships are available between the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Some after-hours and weekend work for event support may also be required. This internship is unpaid - potential for class credit is available pending school approval.
