Title: Recruitment and Outreach Assistant - Temporary
Department: Campaign & Field

Summary: Recruits and supports schools participating in the School & Youth Programs.

Basic Function: Recruit and engage schools to participate in one of our School & Youth programs through telephone and written correspondence. Our School & Youth campaign creates value-building programs for elementary and secondary schools that educate students about blood cancer, who blood cancer affects, and how they can make a difference in the lives of others while they raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Work Direction: Works under the direct supervision and training of School & Youth Specialist

Length of Term: August through Mar/Apr 2015 (end date TBD)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm (25 hours per week within this time period)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with a high volume of schools to register them for the Pennies for Patients or Pasta for Pennies service projects, primarily through phone and email
  • Provides administrative, secretarial and clerical support for special events.
  • Maintains assigned office, program and event records, files and data bases.
  • Prepares event related correspondence and reports.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its' programs to address them.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Excellent Microsoft Office, word processing and database management skills
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Knowledge of standard business machines and computers.
  • Professional maturity and judgment.
  • Clear, concise speaking voice
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent telephone skills
  • Fundraising and/or recruiting experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Will be required to travel within the Chapter's designated area.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • May be required to move Campaign materials weighing up to 20 pounds for various events.
