Position Title: Senior Campaign Director, Light The Night
Immediate Supervisor: Area Director
Chapter: Greater Bay Area Chapter
Position Classification: Exempt
Basic Function: Responsible for overall development (immediate and strategic) of the Light The Night campaign with major fiscal and operational impact for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society within the chapter's chartered area. Senior level management responsibility/accountability for financial and human resources. Primary supervisory responsibility for multiple exempt staff levels. Serves as senior leader within chapter.
Work Direction: Works under the supervision and direction of the Chapter Executive Director and Area Director, requiring management approval for activities outside the annual strategic plan and budget. Partners with the Light The Night Region Campaign Director for direction, resources and expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for oversight of six Light The Night Walks in the Silicon Valley, Bay Area and North Bay markets.
- Program Strategic Planning - Develop a comprehensive annual Light The Night strategic plan inclusive of best practices, volunteer leadership development, fiscal management, staffing assignments and management, task timelines and additional significant events and/or promotions. Ensure plans and resources are in place to achieve, at a minimum, the program's approved net campaign revenue budget.
- Program Best Practices - Ensure that Light The Night best practices are implemented to increase revenue (Volunteer leadership, Corporate Recruitment Event, Kickoff, Active Team management, Awards Reception and other assigned Light The Night events).
- Human Resources, Staff - Lead and supervise; participate in hiring and training of LTN staff. Develop staff structure and assignments, as needed. Develop annual performance objectives for staff; review progress towards objectives with staff on a regular basis with emphasis during performance reviews. Work with staff to create professional development plans. Motivate and empower staff increasing engagement and productivity.
- Human Resources, Volunteers - Work with the Executive Director and Area Director to identify and recruit high level volunteer leadership for LTN (Corporate Walk Chair and Executive Committees). Cultivate and steward volunteer leaders to ensure each volunteer meets their capacity to impact LTN revenue. Ensure volunteers receive special stewardship and have a wonderful, meaningful experience. Develop and lead volunteer succession planning and development for the future. Ensure proper structure is in place to coordinate volunteers for LTN Committees and office work.
- Relationship Management & Development - Develop relationships with key volunteers and cultivate those volunteers through strategic donor development initiatives including calls, visits, national & local recognition, elevated role, board involvement, etc. Ensure volunteer leaders are educated about the mission and that each touch of the donor is strategic and personally relates to their interests/walk participation.
- Sponsorships - Utilize key volunteers and research/prospecting, develop a coordinated sponsorship plan that includes sponsor identification, development, retention and recognition. Ensure that relationships to secure cash, in-kind, media and program sponsorship are pursued, developed and nurtured.
- Program Recruitment - Oversee the corporate recruitment event (CRE), kickoff and implement all acquisition strategies for sponsors, retail partners, corporate teams, friends and family teams and individuals. Communicate team and individual registration goals to staff, regularly. Track sponsorship, team recruitment and CRE RSVPs, kickoff RSVPs and post CRE team development activity. Ensure recruitment events, mailings and meetings are conducted in a professional and effective manner.
- Program Retention -Work to meet, at a minimum, and exceed the national team retention average. Monitor sponsor and team retention by walk site. Ensure active team management and cultivation/stewardship practices are in place and your team is properly supporting team captains and individuals to develop team fundraising plans, internal kickoffs and training.
- Financial Planning & Oversight - Develop annual LTN budget, conduct ongoing (or as directed) program forecasting, track and monitor program expenses, track recruitment, retention and other metrics to forecast and monitor program's financial health. Keep program's operating expenses within approved annual operating expense budget. Create reports and communicate program's financial status, as needed, to appropriate parties (National Office, National & Regional staff, chapter staff, etc.). Review LTN P & L reports on a monthly basis and report any discrepancies.
- Program Marketing & Materials - Utilize national LTN marketing materials to ensure consistent program branding and program exposure and marketing needed to sustain and grow program. Oversee LTN communications, point of purchase brochure, media sponsors, press releases, print advertising and e-marketing.
Oversee development of chapter's program materials for walkers and team captains. Ensure necessary materials are ordered.
- Technology - Ensure the LTN website is customized with appropriate local information to inspire fundraising and cultivate volunteers and donors. Utilize feedback from national website audits to enhance and improve chapter's website. Ensure chapter staff are trained on, ExactTarget and e-Fundraising/etools pages.
- Oversee proper promotion of eFundraising pages to participants.
- Mission Integration - Maintain a working knowledge of LLS' mission and programs. Ensure that mission is integrated into all program aspects with particular attention to Honored Heroes. LLS' mission should be evident in LTN's Corporate Recruitment Event, kickoffs, internal kickoffs, the Walk, awards reception and in all mass communication material.
- Coordination with National Office - Ensure that you and your staff respond in timely fashion and participates in National Office sponsored activities: submitting timely walksite projections, participating in conference calls, implementing national program best practices, working with LTN National and Regional Staff to develop chapter program plan.
- Other Chapter Activities - Assist as assigned, in the development and implementation of other chapter activities.
- Serves as a role model and leader to entire chapter staff helping to establish high performing teams, a culture of accountability and a safe workplace conducive to obtaining chapter goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- 5 to 7 years of fundraising and communications, sales or marketing and management experience
- Demonstrated staff management capabilities
- The highly organized individual we seek should possess demonstrated staff management capabilities, along with related special event and volunteer management experience.
- Experience managing budgets, as well as solid marketing, public speaking and presentation skills are critical.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively is essential.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, etc. are required.
- Fundraising and donor development experience required.
- Ability to travel both locally and nationally, as well as work nights/weekends is necessary.
- Minimum education is a Bachelor's Degree.
