It's Truly a "Family Affair"


For The Gateway Chapter's Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale

Dec. 13, 2011 -- The Gateway Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced that Kathy Garver will be the emcee at their 18th Annual Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale on April 26, 2012 at The Ritz-Carlton St. Louis.

Garver, who appeared as Cissy on the 1966-1971 sitcom "Family Affair," has earned critical acclaim in movies, stage, radio, voice-over animation, and audio book narration.  She has been awarded such honors as Best Actress from the "Family Television Awards," the Golden Halo Award and the Emerald Award for her lifetime achievement in the entertainment world.

LLS's Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a ten-week fundraising competition to raise money for blood cancer research and patient services.  Candidates competing for the titles of Man & Woman of the Year raise money in honor of The Gateway Chapter's Boy & Girl of the Year, Evan and Shamorie, local leukemia survivors.  The end of the campaign is marked by the Grand Finale to celebrate the efforts of all the candidates.

"I am delighted to be a part of this festive occasion and know it will be an exciting and successful event," said Garver.

Family and friends, supporters and survivors will gather for the 2012 Grand Finale which includes a dinner, silent auction and live auction featuring J. Kim Tucci as auctioneer.  The evening is expected to raise $230,000 for The Gateway Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Tickets, which are $100 per person or $1,000 for a table of ten, will go on sale February 16, 2012.
