Local St. Louisans Raise Funds

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Gateway Chapter Launches Their Search for the Next St. Louis Man & Woman of the Year

February 17, 2012 -- The Gateway Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) kicked off its 2012 Man & Woman of the Year competition on Feb. 16 to raise money for cancer research and patient services.

Community leaders will compete for the national title of Man & Woman of the Year, an honor surrounded with a great deal of fanfare, including a full-page ad in USA Today, but the most important reason candidates participate is for families like this year's Boy & Girl of the Year, Evan and Shamorie.  Evan and Shamorie are local patients who are currently undergoing maintenance treatment and who are sources of inspiration for our candidates.

The funds raised by candidates over a ten week period is used by LLS to fund research seeking cures and better therapies, and to provide information and support so that patients have the best possible outcomes throughout their cancer experience.

Every dollar raised counts as one "vote."  The male and female candidates with the most "votes" will be awarded the local title of 2012 Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Celebration on Thursday, April 26 at The Ritz-Carlton St. Louis. Their totals are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year.

The Gateway Chapter is honored to announce its candidates for the 2012 Man & Woman of the Year:

  • Joshua Baker, US Foods
  • Liz Hughes, Robert Half International
  • Tim Renaud, US Cellular
  • Scott Schulte, Lockton Companies, LLC
  • Mary Pillsbury Wainwright, Mary Pillsbury Jewelry Co.

Special appreciation goes to Centene Corporation, BJC Healthcare, Express Scripts and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly.
