New to the Delaware Chapter, the Student of the Year Campaign is a six-week initiative in which nominated high school students participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?s (LLS) Delaware Chapter. Student of the Year nominees must submit an application (consisting of a questionnaire and essay), and a task force of college students and LLS volunteers select the candidates. The students raise money in honor of a local patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer.
The campaign will begin on January 15, 2015 and culminate with the Grand Finale Celebration on February 28, 2015. Nominations are now being accepted.
The candidate who raises the most money at the end of the six-week competition earns the title Student of the Year as well as a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of his/her choice. An additional three students will be selected to receive a Citizenship Award based on their campaign's commitment to Community, Leadership and the LLS Mission. Every candidate who reaches the minimum fundraising amount of $5,000 will also receive recognition for their achievement.
