What is an Honored Hero?

An honored hero is a blood cancer patient or survivor. Ski4Life's honored hero give volunteers and participants the opportunity to connect with a patient or survivor, educate about blood cancers, and encouraging skiers to raise money to find a cure. While fundraising for Ski4Life, participants can remember the honored hero and raise money to help find a cure for blood cancers!

Ski4Life 2013 Honored Hero: Kaitlyn Weaver!

"I was diagnosed in October of 2007 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia . I was a sophomore at Penn State University. I had to take a semester off of school and went through 9 months of intensive chemo at Hershey Medical Center. I lost all of my long blonde curly hair.
Being the fighter that I am, I was able to come through all the treatment cancer free. I was determined to graduate with my friends so I made up my semester that I had taken off during the summer. I graduated in 2010 with a bachelor?s degree from PSU. I am very blessed to be able to say that I am now almost 5 years out from my diagnosis and I have not had any relapses and am currently cancer free. I am excited to be the honored hero at the Ski 4 Life event. As a skier, I am looking forward to the event. I am very appreciative for all the work that goes into the event and all of the funds that are raised. I am living proof that the research is effective."

Skiers and snowboarders will also have space on their bib in which to write a note if they are skiing in honor or memory of a loved one.
