What is an Honored Hero?
An honored hero is a blood cancer patient or survivor. Ski4Life's honored hero give volunteers and participants the opportunity to connect with a patient or survivor, educate about blood cancers, and encouraging skiers to raise money to find a cure. While fundraising for Ski4Life, participants can remember the honored hero and raise money to help find a cure for blood cancers!
Ski4Life 2014 Honored Hero Diane Brannon-Nordtomme
"At age 5, my parents received the most frightening news any person can hear: Your child has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. From that point on, everything that goes with childhood was linked to my childhood cancer.
All of my life events, each day since my parents received the news, has shaped who I am and what I am. I am grateful for my family, the medicine, the doctors, and the volunteers, because it has strengthened me to be a strong and loving adult. My cancer experience DID NOT kill me, it MADE me stronger.
I cannot thank each of you enough for being the volunteer who made a difference. For being the person who accepts each patient as we are. I thank you for being here and becoming part of my cancer experience and making me stronger."
Skiers and snowboarders will also have space on their bib in which to write a note if they are skiing in honor or memory of a loved one.
